Chemical Peels & Resurfacers

Resurfacing

Chemical Resurfacing products which are used in our clinic sit around the pH scale of between 3.00 & 2.75 which is slightly acidic which will stimulate your skin. These increase cellular turnover, with minimal skin peeling.

Peels

Chemical peels are very acidic and sit around pH 1.04 to 1.33, these are for professional use only and dissolve the top layer of your skin, these are used for rejuvenation, and cause your skin to peel.

pH Formulation

The potential hydrogen (pH) scale of 0-14 measures a solution’s acidity (0-7) or alkalinity (7-14). A pH of 7 is neutral” (neither acid nor alkaline). The lower the pH, the more acidic the solution; the higher the pH, the more alkaline.

pH Scale

0 - 6 - Acidic

7 - Neutral

8 - 14 - Alkaline

Skincare product pH is directly related to results. The skin’s normal acidity is approximately 5.5—slightly acidic. Therefore, cosmetic products must be less than 5.5 pH to stimulate any change in the skin surface, and less than a 3.5 pH for professional treatments.

Professional treatment pH levels enhance rejuvenation results, while home care products prepare the skin for professional treatments, and support and maintain the results.

Alkaline conditions irritate the skin and make it more permeable, rendering it susceptible to microorganisms and harmful substances. However, some skincare preparation products are alkaline to remove oil and prepare the skin for extractions. Some oily skin cleansers are slightly alkaline as well.
